Role
As a Shift Lead, you’re more than an experienced Barista. You’re a leader, coach, problem-solver, and role model for the team. You’ll help keep the café running smoothly, support your team, take care of customers, monitor inventory, communicate with management, and step in wherever you’re needed.
When you’re leading the shift, you’re responsible for the shift.
What You'll Do
LEAD THE TEAM
• Lead Baristas during assigned shifts
• Assign responsibilities and keep the team organized
• Coach and support team members
• Help train new Baristas
• Lead by example with attitude, attendance, work ethic, and customer service
• Communicate clearly with the team and management
RUN A GREAT SHIFT
• Open and/or close the café
• Keep the café clean, organized, stocked, and welcoming
• Manage customer flow during busy periods
• Make sure customers receive friendly, efficient service
• Handle customer concerns and work to ensure customer satisfaction
• Handle POS and cash responsibilities
• Make sure Judhur’s service and quality standards are followed
KEEP UP WITH INVENTORY
• Monitor coffee, milk, syrups, food, cups, packaging, and other supplies
• Keep the café properly stocked throughout the shift
• Identify low inventory before it becomes a problem
• Help with inventory counts and communicate ordering needs
• Minimize waste and make sure products are being used properly
• Communicate inventory concerns to management
KNOW YOUR CRAFT
• Prepare quality coffee, espresso, tea, and specialty drinks
• Follow Judhur recipes and drink standards
• Help Baristas improve their skills
• Properly use and clean café equipment
BE A PROBLEM-SOLVER
• Take ownership when issues come up during your shift
• Handle customer concerns calmly and professionally
• Troubleshoot basic operational and equipment issues
• Make good decisions when management isn’t immediately available
• Find solutions instead of simply pointing out problems
• Know when you can handle something yourself and when to involve management
• Communicate important issues, updates, and concerns to management

- Has previous barista or café experience
- Has leadership experience or is ready to take the next step
- Is dependable, responsible, and accountable
- Can stay calm and make decisions under pressure
- Communicates clearly and respectfully
- Can motivate a team while holding people accountable
- Takes initiative and doesn’t wait to be told what to do
- Cares about customer satisfaction and hospitality
- Understands the importance of inventory and minimizing waste
- Is comfortable communicating with management
- Is a natural problem-solver
- Brings positive energy and is willing to jump in wherever needed
- Is comfortable with mornings, evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as needed
